Spring 2021 WINNERS

In order to insure that each film is studied and rated on an individual basis, WWIFF has instituted
a system where entries do not compete against each other, but instead are recognized for their own individual merits.
For all intents and purposes, they compete against themselves:
each entry is judged on individual merits and scored on an inherent value system.

The judges focus is on your film when it is your turn to be evaluated, not on all the other films that
are in cue: this insures that they will not have comparisons going
on in their minds when they should be focusing entirely on YOU.

Judges score entries on a performance scale and winning entries are recognized and awarded not
only for Best Of Festival&  Best Of Show, but also for two Awards  of Excellence
levels, two Awards of Merit levels, a Kudos Endeavor Award, or no award.

Best Of Festival & Best of Show honors are granted to the top scoring entry/entries for each
season;  Awards of Excellence are granted to entries with truly exceptional artistic and technical
achievements; and Notable achievements are recognized at the  Merit and 'Kudos' award levels.

The number of awards granted at any given level will fluctuate based
on the total number of entries received for each competition deadline.

ALINA - 2020

Director Rami Kodeih

As Nazis separate children from their parents in the Warsaw Ghetto, a gang of women risks everything to smuggle their friend's three-month-old baby to safety. Inspired by true events. Starring Alia Shawkat (ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT, SEARCH PARTY), Edin Gali (MAD MEN), Dorota Puzio, Rebeca Robles (BETTER THINGS), Erika Soto (VIDA), and Mark McCullough (LOGAN LUCKY).

This is My Brave
Documentary Feature (Japan)

Director Paul Edward Foulkes

This is an interview with a Japanese woman who since her younger childhood days was sexually abused. She would live her days up until adulthood being sexually abused by numerous persons. Now in her 30's she has finally found her voice and in this interview talks about her life. She has written a song which reflects that which has happened to her, and it is the core of this documentary.

Morning Star: The Rise of a Migrant Mother, a Mustang Colt and The Valor of Life
  Documentary Feature (USA)
Directors Kimberly Carlisle, Kathryn Lauritzen

This feature-length documentary film parallels the journeys of a migrant mother from El Salvador and a Mustang colt rounded up off Western public lands against the backdrop of the harrowing paths to freedom that both found their way through, until they meet at a ranch in northern California. We explore the impact of trauma resulting from the separation of families and other abuses at the hands of the U.S. government to the individuals, families and our society. Whether human or horse, the wounds are deep, the perpetuation of violence is shared, and the keys to recovery are similar. Through her ordeal, Veronica, the migrant mother, becomes a champion of immigrants' rights. The film takes a hard look at the issues, asks how we got here, explores solutions that we might create from a premise of respect and value for all life, and ends on a note of hope.
